- Discontinue use of prescription retinoids (e.g., Retin-A, Tretinoin). These products thin the skin and increase sensitivity, which can affect pigment retention and healing.
- Avoid medium to deep chemical peels, laser resurfacing, and microneedling near the brow area. These treatments must be completed at least 6 weeks prior to allow your skin to fully recover.
- If you've had Botox or Dysport in the forehead or glabella (between the brows), wait at least 4–6 weeks to allow the muscles to settle into their natural resting position before mapping and tattooing.
- Discontinue all over-the-counter retinol products, glycolic/salicylic acids, AHA/BHA serums, vitamin C, and acne treatments on or near the brow area. These ingredients increase skin sensitivity and interfere with pigment implantation.
- Avoid sunburn or excessive tanning. Do not arrive with damaged, peeling, or freshly tanned skin on the face or brow area.
- Pause lash or brow growth serums (like Latisse, GrandeLash, or brow enhancers) as they may cause vascular changes that increase bleeding or pigment diffusion.
- Avoid facials, waxing, dermaplaning, threading, or tinting of the brows.
- Refrain from using scrubs, masks, or exfoliants near the brow area.
- Do not get filler injections near the brows, temples, or upper face during this window.
- Inform your artist if you’re prone to keloids, hyperpigmentation (PIH), or sensitive skin conditions such as eczema or rosacea.
Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning agents, such as:
- Aspirin
- ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
- naproxen
- Fish oil
- vitamin E
- niacin
- turmeric
- ginger
- gingko biloba
(Only discontinue prescribed medications under your doctor’s supervision.)
- Limit exposure to saunas, steam rooms, intense exercise, or anything that increases circulation and sweating.
- Avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, matcha, energy drinks)
- Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
- Avoid applying makeup, SPF, or skincare products to your brow area the night before and morning of your appointment.
- Get a full night’s sleep and avoid stress where possible — your skin heals better when your body is rested.
- Avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, matcha, energy drinks)
- Arrive with clean skin and no makeup on or near the brows. Please avoid using moisturizers, sunscreen, or oils on the forehead and brow area.
- Eat a light meal before your appointment to help stabilize your blood sugar.
- Avoid intense workouts, sweating, or facial treatments.
- Do not take sedatives, stimulants, or pain relievers (unless medically prescribed), as these can affect your sensitivity or bleeding.
- If you are planning to travel, swim, or be in direct sunlight within 10 days after your procedure, consider rescheduling. Brows must be protected during the healing process.
- If you arrive with damaged, inflamed, sunburned, or compromised skin, your artist may need to reschedule your appointment to protect your safety and outcome.
- PMU is not advised if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or actively undergoing medical treatment that affects the skin or immune system (such as Accutane or chemotherapy).
